i’m back!
Posted on March 4, 2012
shh, i never really left, but this little blogsite of mine is sadly neglected. i will reach into the archives and blog a couple of other sessions, including, of course, april and aaron’s wedding. in the meantime, i could not resist a quick photo of the sweetest and squishiest little guy i photographed today. he gave kisses with such zeal and had the most inquisitive eyes. i tried to mix candids and lightly posed shots for this session and i think that’s the direction that i’m headed, even with baby photos, which are usually more posed. some of my favourites from this session are the outtakes, which can’t be posed for anyway. i had no hats, no baskets, or anything much other than a background stand and a few blankets with me today. that’s the future direction, folks!

When I give my heart, it will be completely ~ Nat King Cole
When you have been a couple for over ten years, nooks and crannies of your lives feel familiar, don’t they? Tonight is the eve of April and Aaron’s wedding and though they know each other so well, it will be thrilling to see them begin this next chapter in their lives. See you soon!

two necklaces |guelph family photographer|

Two are better than one, especially when a little girl simply needs to wear both! I spent the morning with a fantastic family a while ago while a late snow storm raged outside. Ms. A. was very interested in the picture making process and was very proud of both her necklaces. She readily told me when my camera lights would go off and wanted to show me her fairy wands too. Mr. D was slightly less curious about the whole process, but we had fun nonetheless. It’s too bad we could not go outside to grab some family shots – they had the best front porch!

Is it here yet? |burlington family photographer|

It has been a very long winter, hasn’t it? Are we not ready for some warmth and sunshine? It gives me hope that the sun stays around longer these days. The birds are stirring, and it seems like we are just on the cusp of spring. Here, we have begun to emerge, checking out the marsh, dusting off bikes and reacquainting ourselves with the pure joy of a bbq meal. I am looking forward to photographing families in the spring and upcoming weddings. I have spent the winter reading and learning and thinking a lot about where I would like to head with my photography journey. Stay tuned…

love and be loved |Burlington Family Photographer|
Posted on February 15, 2011
I am alive, though you would not know it from the blog! The holiday season swallowed me up and I am slowly emerging on the other side. The winter wonderland that we have had has led to some hibernation too. I am working on some new things for the site and for the look of Holdlifestill Photography. I’m also looking forward to spring! In the meantime, I have been working on a personal project of taking a photo a day for 2011. It’s my second year of taking a photo a day, with the first being 2009. I have learned that planning and taking a photo a day shows you the richness of your fleeting life. My 2011 photos can be found on Flickr here.
I wanted to share with you a bit of an e-mail that I received from my father today. He finished the message by simply noting: “love and be loved.” How powerful is that? As I thought about it, it came to me that at the end of a hurried day, if you know that you love and are loved, what else matters?
I hope you have had a wonderful v-day, whatever it means to you and whomever you share it with. As for me, the plan is to weave the “love and be loved” message into my year, starting today. Coming home to these fragrant bits of spring also soothed my soul.

We had gone far enough together to listen easily in the quiet spaces. ~ Storypeople
We started the e-session at the tree where Jess and Jay will promise to share their lives together next May. Jay’s soothing words helped them both to ease into the session and brought forth Jess’ radiant smile and laugh. As we walked through the windy paths of the family property, it was clear how deeply embedded the family traditions are and how meaningful it will be to have the ceremony there with family and close friends nearby. I am looking forward to sharing your special day.

Family |Burlington Family Photographer|

How many grown siblings carve the time out of their busy lives to have a family photo taken? I know that I don’t have many photos of my sister and I together. Yes, there are lots of photos of my sister, who has the pleasure of being related to me and looks suspiciously at me when I encourage her to touch up her mascara, but not very many of US together. This afternoon was filled with laughter as we wandered and photographed. And who could forget the stinky rotting fish on the rocks of lake Ontario?

“I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself” ~ Maya Angelou
Isn’t being home what family is all about? I was honoured to photograph Jaclyn’s family recently and while the weather threatened us with rain and the park was filled with lots of people, we found some spots of solitude for capturing memories. And who doesn’t love a family that will rock climb during a photo session?? I hope that your dinner afterward was lovely!

In Search of Orcas |Dundas Family Photographer|

Don’t let the title mislead you. It really was a family fall session with Paul and Paula and their little guys. While we wandered the beautiful grounds of Paletta Mansion, we were also on the look out for those orcas that Master T was fascinated with at another place and time. Paula said that she is a big fan of black and white photos and I was happy to process the majority of the photos from the session in that way. A few spoke for colour treatment, especially with those awesome red leaves in the background. Check out the spirit of these brothers who are close in age and full of spunk!
